House Numbers
Home Up

Fanwood’s Emergency Services units need your help. Please make sure your house numbers are visible from the street. Emergency calls are always time-sensitive – the faster they can find your home, the sooner they can respond to your emergency. House numbers should be displayed within 3 feet of the front door (or the door to your home that is visible to the street) and should be in a contrasting color to the background (i.e. black letters on a white door). Numbers should be at least four (4) inches in height and reflective if possible. Some people have their house numbers displayed at ground level on rocks or posts – but during the winter, snow can cover these numbers making them not visible.

Take a look at your house when it’s dark outside. Can you see your house number? If you can’t – neither can the police, fire department or rescue squad. Is your house set back from the street? The Fanwood Police Department has an emergency beacon light you can install that will flash when turned on. This can help identify your home during an emergency. Fanwood residents can click here to learn how you can obtain one of these beacons for free.
