Union County Crime Stoppers, Inc. is affiliated with Crime Stoppers International. The concept was first used in 1979 to find the murders of Hillside Patrolman Anthony Lordi. Union County Crime Stoppers has been running strong since its By-Laws were adopted in April 1984. The program concept originated in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1976, when a local police officer enlisted the assistance and support of local newspapers, radios and television stations to spread the word to the general public about a person wanted for a crime, offering a reward that led to the criminal’s arrest and indictment. Today, there are over 1,200 Crime Stoppers programs in communities around the world that take TIPS to assist police investigators to solve crimes including homicides, sexual assaults, drug trafficking and robberies, just to name a few. Programs have also received information that has prevented school shootings and criminal acts by terrorist organizations. Since the program began in April 1984, nearly sixty cash rewards been paid out. Not everyone claims the reward money. Some citizens simply provide information because they want to keep our streets safe and to do the “right thing.”“Crime Stoppers does NOT need your NAME, just your INFORMATION!” If you have any tips about criminal activity or suspects, call the Union County Crime Stopper’s toll-free HOTLINE at 908-654-TIPS (8477). They offer a reward up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of criminal suspects. Crime Stoppers. BE ONE! Additional Crime Stoppers Info
