Fanwood cross-trains with teams from Clark and Springfield, as well as other towns in New Jersey. If your town has a CERT program and would like to cross-train with Fanwood, please let us know. There are also some advanced online courses available all the time.

The Practical course originally scheduled for February 23, 2008 has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2008 and will be held at the Linden Fire Academy. It will run from 9am until 2pm. North: From Route 22, take the Scotch Plains exit to Park Avenue. Continue south on Park Avenue through three lights. At the fourth traffic light (Midway Avenue), just before you get to Midway Avenue, you will turn left on Woodland Avenue (a small road before Midway Avenue) and go straight for one block to the park entrance on your left. Forest Road Park has its own parking lot and the park building is directly in front of the park, past the basketball court. If you miss this turn on Woodland Avenue, you can turn left on Midway and then left on Forest Road to get to the park as well.

South: In Clark, Lake Avenue becomes Martine Avenue once you cross into Scotch Plains. Continue through to downtown Fanwood and go straight at traffic light over train track bridge (Dunkin Donuts on your right). Continue straight through next traffic light and straight at Fire Signal flashing yellow light at Watson Road, at the next traffic light (Midway), be in the right hand lane and turn right onto Woodland Avenue (a small road before Midway Avenue). If you miss this turn, you will need to make a u-turn since there are no other vehicle entrances to the park. Go straight for one block to the park entrance on your left. Forest Road Park has its own parking lot and the park building is directly in front of the park, past the basketball court.

bulletEast: From North Avenue in Westfield, continue past Lord & Taylor, straight through two traffic lights, past TD Bank. Follow the road as it curves left then right. Continue on Midway Avenue to the right. The last intersection before the next traffic light is Forest Road. Make a left on Forest and go straight into the park. If you miss Forest Road, you can make a sharp right turn onto Woodland Avenue before Martine Avenue, which is the major intersection at the next traffic light. Then turn left into the park. Forest Road Park has its own parking lot and the park building is directly in front of the park, past the basketball court.
bulletWest: From Terrill Road on the Plainfield border, turn onto Midway Avenue in Fanwood and then go to the next traffic light (Martine Avenue). Go into the left turn lane. Just before you cross through Martine Avenue, you will take the fork on the left to Woodland Avenue (a small road before Midway Avenue) and go straight for one block to the park entrance on your left. Forest Road Park has its own parking lot and the park building is directly in front of the park, past the basketball court. If you miss this turn on Woodland Avenue, you can go straight on Midway and then take the first left on Forest Road to get to the park as well.

Council Chambers of Borough Hall (lower level, where municipal court is held) Borough Hall is located at 75 North Martine Avenue between Midway Avenue and Watson Road. From Route 22, take the Scotch Plains exit to Park Avenue. Continue south on Park Avenue through four lights (past downtown Scotch Plains, past CVS on your right, and straight through the light at Midway Avenue). Go up slight hill (less than 1/10th of a mile) and Borough Hall is on your right. Turn in entrance and park in upper lot just past the police vehicles. Please do not park in any spots marked "FD Only" (lower lot) - those are reserved in case our volunteer fire department has to respond to a call. The Borough Hall Council Chambers entrance is on the lower level near the flag.

Fanwood Rescue Squad Headquarters is located behind Borough Hall, but parking is off of Watson Road. From Route 22, take the Scotch Plains exit to Park Avenue. Continue south on Park Avenue through four lights (past downtown Scotch Plains, past CVS on your right, and straight through the light at Midway Avenue). Go up slight hill (less than 1/10th of a mile) and past Borough Hall (on your right). At the flashing yellow light, turn right on Watson Road. There is parking on the right side and an entire lot at the Carriage Park on the left. Please do not enter into the Fire Department/Rescue Squad area (marked "DO NOT ENTER") or park in any spots marked "FD Only"  - those areas are reserved in case our volunteer fire department and/or rescue squad has to respond to a call.

Linden - Union County Fire Academy is located at 700 Lower Road in Linden. From Fanwood, you can take North Avenue into Cranford, then turn Right on Centennial Avenue into Linden and then Left at North Stiles (fork at the traffic light). You will cross St. Georges Avenue and also cross US 1/9. The area where the academy is located is in an industrial park with a public works department in front and a long narrow driveway to the Fire Academy (if you are coming from Fanwood on North Stiles/Lower Road, you will pass a fence and turn right on the road right next to the railroad track). You will be able to see the large fire tower as a landmark. Park near the trailer classrooms. We strongly urge you to wear clothing that is warm and can get dirty. All of the exercises are outside and much of the Fire Academy has a coating of soot on it...Directions from any location to the Linden Fire Academy via Mapquest®
